Purpose

The purpose of our AWANA program is to partner with families to help in the discipleship of their children. Each week, children connect with caring adults who assist children in Scripture memorization, lead small group Bible study, and teach large group Bible lessons. We pray the children attending our program will grow to be spiritually mature followers of Jesus Christ. 

Qualifications

Grace Baptist Church has the following requirements of all volunteers working with children in order to create a safe environment and present a worthy example:

  • Must have been regularly involved for at least 6 months and a member of Grace.

  • Complete a Volunteer Screening with the Children’s Ministry Coordinator to better understand your experience working with children and ministry preferences.

  • Successfully pass all state required background checks and Mandated Reporter Training.

  • Present yourself as a committed Christian who regularly participates in Grace’s weekly worship services.

  • Be a growing Christian growing in Christ through consistent quiet time, prayer, and mutual accountability.

Responsibilities

There are multiple ways to serve in AWANA. The following are expectations of various roles:

All Volunteers:

  • Arrive at least 10 minutes prior to service time to prepare materials and greet children at the door.

  • Create a welcoming environment finding ways to connect with children and demonstrating Jesus’ love through your interactions.

  • Be aware of allergies and food restrictions to keep children safe.

Small Group Leaders:

  • Assist children with their Scripture memorization.

  • Lead small group Bible study and engage children in the discussion to help them understand the ‘text truth’ to be learned

  • Encourage participation in game time and help the game time leader with set up of activities.

  • Supervise children during large group time encouraging them to attentively listen to the lesson.

Large Group Leaders:

  • Conduct an engaging learning session appropriate to the needs and understanding of the children.
